Drinnking Deaths Draw Attention to Old Campus Problems
Sink opens the article very strongly with the mentioning of a college students death. The first paragraph grabbed my attention and made me want to find out more. I know alcohol is a serious substance and can not be dealt with lightly. The underage drinking of a freshman and the death grabs the attention of the reader. The sentence also gives the overview of the article to know it is about the deaths caused by drinking. The opening is also relatable to many students and readers. Although we may not know someone who died from alcohol poisoning, we do know people who have way too much and black out. Sink made the opening perfect for the article and showed how serious the subject is. Her intentions were to pull you in and give you the overview.

I completely agree that Sink's first few lines really grabs the reader's attention due to the severity of it. I also agree that although we may not know someone personally who has passed away from alcohol poisoning, it still is a scary thing to think about because many people we know have been put in spots where they could have been. I believe she also does it to really make the reader think and sympathize with these deaths in hope that next time you or a friend of yours is drinking, you will stop and think about how easily things could go wrong.
