We're Lying: Safe Sex and White Lies in the Time of AIDS

Sex education is an important class that should be taught in schools. You see teenagers getting pregnant younger and younger. I think there should be several classes that students should take. I informational safe sex class in middle school. This class will talk about sex and safe sex. The class should not really get into diseases because most children, unless born with it, will have it. The diseases should be mentioned but in high school they should be elaborated on. In high school, there should be talk about different methods of birth control and more depth about STD's. Teenagers should be aware about their body and what happens when they are careless when they engage in sexual affairs. I personally found out about sex and information in the fifth grade when we watched the puberty video. This is when I started to become aware of my body and what my body can do, produce a child. Fifth grade was a perfect time to make me aware of the changes in my body, but did not talk about sex. I had a sex education class in middle school and we talked about sex and different contraceptives. High school was where I learned the most about STD's, more contraceptives, and facts about sexual education. My journey on finding out about sex was awkward, but in the long run it has saved me from making worse decisions. Teenagers need to be exposed to know and not all parents will talk to them about it unless asked. Schools should have in depth conversations and have kids ask questions. Some may disagree and say it gives them more ideas to do. Although it does, we must try to trust the kids to make the right decision. Sexual education is great to start and should start as early as the sixth grade because that is when most boys and girls are going through the changes of life, puberty.

  1. I agree, the "sex talk" with students should not be one long awkward talk, but rather many small talks as they mature and need to know more.
